Genevieve Edwards, 86, of Independence, WV, passed from this world on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Heartland of Preston County.
Genevieve was born July 7, 1928, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Frank Lowe and Margaret May (Zinn) Smith.
She was a graduate of Arthurdale High School; an avid gardener who loved the outdoors and took pride in mowing her grass and keeping up her property until her heart attack on August 15th. She missed her calling which in another time would have been accountancy, as she was a stickler for details and balance. She was the peacekeeper in her natal family of six siblings.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Lou Trickett; her daughter, Sherry L. Mooney; two grandsons, Stephen S. and David E. Whittaker; four great-granddaughters, Genevieve Marie Whittaker, Amanda Moran, Amy Moran and Ashley Moran; three great-grandsons, Kyle, Sean and Elijah Whittaker; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry David Edwards and their stillborn daughter; two brothers, Orval and Joseph Smith; two sisters, Mildred Elaine Bolyard and Mary Olive Leasure.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, on Sunday, September 14, 2014, from 1-4pm; on Monday, September 15, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Frances J. McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Genevieve's memory to St. Michaels Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 543, Kingwood, WV 26537.
