George Edward Rocovich, 86, of Westover, WV died Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Mapleshire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown.
He was born March 25, 1928 in Uniontown, PA a son of the late Paul and Anna (Varnak) Rocovich.
George was a big Mountaineer Fan. He was an active resident at Mapleshire where he enjoyed bowling and bingo. His encouragement to sing and dance was inspired by his membership in the choir. Through the encouragement and wonderful care of the Mapleshire staff family, George was always smiling and staying hello to everyone, never meeting a stranger. He loved being with people and by sharing his love, he was therefore loved by many.
He is survived by one sister and spouse, Mary Catherine and Frank "Jake" Sutherland of Morgantown; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Missy" Rocovich of Morgantown; five nieces and nephews, Teresa Hartley of Morgantown, Paula Roy of Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Knight of Worthington, WV, William Rocovich of Ft. Worth, TX and Ronald Rocovich of Morgantown; his extended family, Sandy Twigg and Theresa Twigg of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William Rocovich.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Mancinelli Chapel in Westover on Thursday, June 19 from 6 - 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m. with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrate. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow at the Lawnwood Cemetery.
