Joann T. Wills, 87, of Kingwood, WV, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Pine Ridge. She was born March 3, 1930, in Fairmont, WV, daughter of the late Charles Hornor and Ruth West Troxell. She taught music and math in the Preston County School system for more than 30 years. She graduated from West Fairmont Senior High School as salutatorian of her class and from Fairmont State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education with a minor in Mathematics.
Mrs. Wills was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served as its director for many years. She also previously served as organist at the Kingwood Baptist Church and interim organist at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. She was also active in many local organizations.
She cherished her membership in Delta Kappa Gamma International, an honorary society for women educators, in which she held numerous offices at the local and state chapters. She was honored as the Alpha Phi State Achievement Award recipient for her outstanding service, leadership, and contributions to education.
Joann was a talented quilter and seamstress who also loved reading, camping, and traveling. Above all, her greatest joy came from her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John C. Wills with whom she shared her love of music and hobbies; a sister, Jean Kaufman of Delmont, PA; and three nieces Missy, Gretchen and Pamela Kaufman of Delmont, PA.
She is survived by her four children; Linda J. Westbrook of Kingwood, John H. Wills and wife Lois of Halifax, VA, David Wills of Kingwood, and Jody Groves and husband Scott of Morgantown.
She is also survived by five grandchildren; John M. Wills and wife Samie of South Boston, VA, Alycia Lewis and husband Richard of Halifax, VA, Craig Wills and wife Missy of Midlothian, VA, Ryan Groves and Lindsay Groves of Morgantown.
She also dearly loved her great- grandchildren; Nicholas and Alyssa Lewis, Sadie Wills, and Calvin and Simon Wills.
Two nieces Barbara Kaufman of Delmont, PA, and Sandy Weiss of Brigantine, NJ, and a nephew Tim Krupa and wife Jan of Smithfield, PA also held a special place in her heart.
Friends may call at Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8pm; on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 10:00 am until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Wesley United Methodist Church in Kingwood with Rev. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Jack and Joann Wills Music Educators Scholarship Fund and mailed to P.O. Box 567, Kingwood, WV 26537.
