Mary Jane Whitener, 91 of Morgantown, WV died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Windy Hill Village in Kingwood.
She was born on March 9, 1923 in Zelienople, PA a daughter of the late Clarence and Esther (Bichey) Fisher.
Mary Jane began her nursing career during WW II by entering the Army Nursing Program. Following her training she worked as a Public Health Nurse for several years before working at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her long career in the nursing profession was concluded upon her retirement from National Institute of Health in Washington, DC.
Following her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her friends. She especially enjoyed the many cruises, until her health would no longer allow her to travel.
She was a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church in Zelienople
Mary Jane is survived by three sons; Douglas Whitener and Kevin Whitener both of Plains, VA, Ronald Whitener of Morgantown; two daughters, Colleen Whitener of Richmond, VA and Sharon Peterson of SC.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Cecil Whitener; one son, Michael Whitener; one daughter, Patricia Dryman; one sister, Virginia Fisher.
Cremation services are under the direction of Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel and Crematory.
