Franklin Perry Harris, 95, of Tunnelton, WV, (Denver Community) died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at his home.
Franklin was born October 3, 1922, in Newburg, a son of the late Alonzo and Dessie (McGinnis) Harris.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He retired from Reliable Coal Company where he worked as a mechanic for 23 years. Franklin was a member of the United Mine Workers Association, Colonel Rowan Post #2345, and a lifetime member of D.A.V. Chapter #24 of Grafton.
He is survived by one son and spouse, Glenn and Frances Harris of Albright; one daughter and spouse, Darla (Harris) and Randy Marsh of Tunnelton; two sisters and spouses, Martha and Frank Bulford, Monalee and Doc Mayne, all of Rowlesburg; one son-in-law, Roger Simpson of Tunnelton; six grandchildren and spouses, Gregory and Vicki Harris of Kingwood, Darren and Sonya Simpson of Mt. Hope, Kevin Harris of Canton, OH, Brandi and David Bucklew of Morgantown, Nicholas and Billie Jo Marsh of Kingwood, Casey and James Simmons of Clarksburg; nine great-grandchildren, Kennedy Harris, Ryan Harris, Sydney Harris, Corey Bucklew, Hayden Bucklew, Brodie Simpson, Garrett Simpson, Kirkland Sendling, Isabella "Izzy" Sendling; five step-grandchildren, Charles Bigler-Marsh, Ashtyn Bigler-Marsh, Malaki Riley-Marsh, Kohlton Riley-Marsh, and Elexis Riley-Marsh; ex-granddaughter-in-law, Penny Harris; ex-grandson-in-law, Charlie Sendling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Josephine (Knotts) Harris; one daughter, Wilma Louise (Harris) Simpson; four brothers, Nacie Harris, Leo Harris, John Harris and Arch Harris; three sisters, Birtha Bolyard, Virginia Larew and Pearl Jean Swiger.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 4-8pm, on Sunday, April 29, 2018, from 2-5pm, on Monday, April 30, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Hagedorn officiating. Interment will follow at the Denver/Shaw Cemetery where Military graveside honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson.
