Orpha Ercel (Ridenour) Bolyard, age 99, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Rosewood Nursing Center. Orpha lived in Stevensburg most of her life. She lived with her daughter Evelyn in Newburg for seven years until the last month.
Orpha was born in Mt. Israel community, the last surviving child of William Ison and Ada Myrtle (Gidley) Ridenour. She was a homemaker, nanny, gardener, farmer, quilter and past waitress. Orpha was well known for her amazing cooking. Her special love for children and youthful spirit made her popular with her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She attended Stevensburg Church and later Newburg United Methodist Church. She loved to carry her "sword" (the Bible) with her. Orpha attended the Newburg Senior Center.
Orpha was the widow of Bennie Scott Bolyard. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Auvil of Newburg; one son, Dorsey "Buster" Bolyard (Patsie) of Stevensburg; grandchildren, Darlene Garletts (Scott), William Auvil (Stacy), Michael Auvil, Sandy Keller (Mike), Leisha Garrett, Mingo Bolyard (Karen), Cindy Bolyard; great-grandchildren, Madison Garletts, Becky Malson (Brian), Katie Bolyard, JoAnna Bolyard, Veronica and Alex Tichnell; great-great-grandchildren, Bella Bolyard, Garren and Aleta Malson; sister-in-law, Wanda Ridenour of Rowlesburg.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Bolyard Auvil; sons-in-law, Donihue Ridenour, Richard Auvil, Donald Auvil; great-grandsons, John Thomas Haskiell, Lucas Bolyard, siblings, Georgie, Lee, James "Bucky", Paul, Dale and Rose Ridenour, Nellie Nestor.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 2-7 pm; Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Mt. Israel Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sam Cline officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Israel Cemetery.
