Edsel Reed Obituary

Edsel Claire "Ed" Reed, 94, of Kingwood, WV passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, May 13, 2021.

He was born September 13, 1926, in Spencer, WV, a son of the late Haze and Ruby (Kiser) Reed.

Ed was a very talented woodworker and craftsman, building cabinetry out of reclaimed wormy chestnut, and giving new life to old barns and other buildings. His art was witnessed in the building of his "man cave" that he thoroughly enjoyed for 51 years and the construction of Briery Mt. Hams located in Kingwood in1971.  For other enjoyment he loved golfing, music, dancing and driving his red Miata convertible for long country drives along with his wife of 73 years, Lee.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school and went on to work for Mon Power where he retired as shift supervisor after 35 years of service in 1981.  He was a member of Preston County Country Club for many years and the Masonic Lodge of Spencer, WV for over 70.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lee Reed and two brothers, "Hess" and Jim Reed.

Ed has three daughters, Sherry Rouzee (Raymond) of Bridgeport, Terry Decker (Steve) of Reedsville and Kelly Reed of Warm Springs, VA; seven grandchildren and spouses; Jodi Jones (Jay), Brian  Rouzee (Monica), Cody  Rouzee (Jen), Andrew Decker (Nicky), Mandy Schmidle (Nick), Sarah Harris (Brad) and Reed Bjorkman (Katie), along with 13 great grandchildren.

Mary Verbonitz, caregiver, gave the very best of care for the past five years to both Ed and Lee which allowed them to remain home until their passing. Her dedication and compassion will never be forgotten.

Cremation and other arrangements are under the direction of Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel and Rotruck-Lobb Crematory.  A graveside service will be held in Spencer, WV, where Ed and Lee will rest, once again, together.
