Franklin Shrout Obituary

Franklin Delano Shrout Sr., 92, of Kingwood, WV, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Kingwood Healthcare Center. He was born on March 1, 1933, in Kingwood, son of the late Grover “Red” Clinton and Iva Cleota (Uphold) Shrout.

Franklin was a proud United States Marine Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He had worked as a government inspector for Matthew Bronze. Franklin enjoyed carpentry and building trains. As a volunteer, he made the sausage patties for the Buckwheat Festival for several years, and he spent countless hours helping others at the Salvation Army and Heartland. Franklin was a loving father and Pappy. He will be dearly missed.

Franklin is survived by his daughter, Tina Smith, of Kingwood; three sons, Franklin Shrout Jr. and wife Kim, Greg Shrout, Chris Shrout and wife Susie, all of Kingwood; twelve grandchildren, Laina Riley, Heather Smith, Laura Porter and husband Chuck, LeAnna Shrout, Brian Shrout and Jamie Shaffer, Greg Shrout Jr. and wife Whitney, Alyissa Shrout and Ray Sypolt, Colton Shrout and wife Glenda, Lily Shrout, Courtney Dewitt, Cory McDonald; thirteen great grandchildren, Kierian Smith, Kiara Riley, Elijah Smith, Jaedyn Shrout, Shayla Sypolt, Ashlynn Sypolt, Sakara Sypolt, Haisley Wolfe, Genesis, Chance, Calex, Jarad, Aspen; and one brother, William “Bill” Shrout, of Kingwood.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Jay Michael "Mike" Smith; one son, Brian Shrout; two brothers, Robert Shrout, Alfred Shrout; and five sisters, Beatrice Siegmyer, Evelyn Benson, Margaret Fink, Mildred Sisler, Loretta Harrison.

Friends and family will be received at  Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S Price Street, Kingwood, from 11am until the 1pm funeral hour, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, with Pastor Mike Delligatti and Senior Ministry Leader Don Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by the Preston County Honor Guard and the US Marine Honor Guard.
