JoAnn (Rodeheaver) Shay

JoAnn (Rodeheaver) Shay, 83, passed away at her home in Newburg, WV, on Friday, March 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Albright, WV, on September 30, 1940, a daughter of the late Josiah Jordon Rodeheaver and Hazel Hilda (Rankin) Rodeheaver.

JoAnn graduated from Albright High School and was a homemaker. She delivered the Dominion Post for Denver, Tunnelton, and Birdscreek communities. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and baking homemade bread, fudge, and candy, which she is known for. She was a foster mom for 17 years. JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

JoAnn is survived by her son, Fred Shay Jr. (Tabitha), of Bruceton Mills, WV; two daughters, Diane Shay, of Newburg, WV, Cassie Shay, of Newburg, WV; one grandson, Christian Galloway, of Bruceton Mills, WV; a brother, Marvin Rodeheaver (Mary), of Albright, WV; three sisters, Betty Casteel, of Terra Alta, WV, Ida Loughry (Samuel), of Newburg, WV, Peggy Cramer (George), of Terra Alta, WV; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Frederick O. Shay Sr.; two brothers, Michael Rodeheaver, Benny (Thelma) Rodeheaver; three sisters, Wanda Rodeheaver, Patsy Strahin (Melvin), Linda (Raymond) Funk; brother in law, William Casteel; and two siblings in infancy.

Friends may call at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, WV 26537, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 3pm-7pm and Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 10am-11am. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home, at 11am Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with Pastor Sonny McNear officiating. Interment will follow at the Parnell Cemetery.
