Katherine Jean (Thomas) Hughes

Katherine Jean Hughes, 89, of Kingwood, WV, died on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at her home.

Katherine was born May 31, 1932, in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of the late Philip George and Catherine Mae (Young) Thomas.

She was a graduate of Johnstown High School, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Kane’s Creek United Methodist Women and the Rowlesburg Chapter #127 O.E.S. She is survived by two daughters and spouse, Charlene and Thomas E. Strahin of Kingwood, Cindy Klara of Elkridge, MD; sister-in-law, Beverly Thomas of NC; three grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Alexis (Rocheck) Moore of TX, Jennifer and Jose Pleitez of MD, Jason and Anna Klara of NC; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy Sandoval, Jordan Pleitez-Klara, and Joel Pleitez.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Reverend Dean E. Hughes; three sisters and spouses, Elizabeth “Betty” and John Kanuch, Stella “Weedie” and Donald Wolcock, Donna Lee and Charles Rager; four brothers, George Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, Philip Thomas Jr., and Arthur “Artie” Thomas.

Friends may call at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 5-8pm. The Rowlesburg Chapter #127 O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home which will conclude the evening visitation; on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Katherine’s memory to either the Wesley United Methodist Church, 107 West High Street, Kingwood, WV 26537, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Street, Memphis, TN 38105.
