Kathryn Christman Obituary

Kathryn L. Christman, age 99, of New Caney, TX, formerly of Kingwood, WV died Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Humble Home Care in Springs, TX. She was born August 13, 1921, in Amblersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Fuller C. Martin and Laura Myrtle Nine Martin Gary.

She was a member of Kingwood Baptist Church, in Kingwood, WV and attended 2nd Baptist Church in Kingwood, TX, while living in Texas. Her favorite passion was walking daily and for those who knew her will remember that she was often seen walking the streets of Kingwood at an amazingly fast pace. For her 80th birthday, she walked 118 miles in one month, and had won several trophies over the years, for her participation in the Buckwheat Festival Walk and Run.

Kathryn enjoyed baking cookies for family and friends and made weekly visits to local nursing homes. She loved her family and enjoyed listening to country music.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Shedd and husband Neil Shedd, Sr. of New Caney, TX, and Karen Young of New Caney, TX. Five grandchildren, Michelle Stanton of Buckhannon, WV, Tracy Whetsell of Kingwood, WV, Timothy Whetsell of Cheyenne, WY, Robert Young of New Caney, TX, and Debra Allen of Magnolia, TX. Additionally, she is survived by 14 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Richard L. Christman on March 23, 2003, five brothers, seven sisters, several nieces, nephews, and her son in law, James Young.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no visitation and a private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.
