Larry Kay “Pete” Nicholson, 70, of Tunnelton, WV, went to bed and woke up in Heaven on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at his home.
Pete was born January 22, 1950, in Morgantown, a son of the late Kenneth Ross and Virginia Maud (Greathouse) Nicholson.
He was a 1967 graduate of Valley High School, a veteran of the US Army, a member of the New Beginnings Church in Moatsville, and a member of District 31 UMWA Local Union 1058 in Fairmont. He worked as a bus driver for the Preston County Senior Citizens, Inc. dba Buckwheat Express. Pete was an active member in the community and had worked as an EMT for many years with the Tunnelton Volunteer Ambulance Service and had served as Mayor in Tunnelton in the past. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patty Jean (Hall) Nicholson; one daughter, Julia Bolyard of Tunnelton; two step-daughters and spouse, Kim and Roger Metheny of Reedsville, Shelley Weaver of Arthurdale; one brother and spouse, Kenneth and Terry Nicholson of Arthurdale; one sister, Rita Nicholson of Kingwood; one granddaughter, Alexis Kaye Bolyard; four step-grandchildren and spouses, Zack and Brittany Metheny, Meredith and Sean Hanlon, Elliott and Sarah Weaver, Corrie Miller; six step-great-grandchildren, Landon and Laney Miller, Reese and Hallie Metheny, Hayes and Lincoln Hanlon; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry F. Nicholson; his step- daughter, Robin Zinn; his son-in-law, Steve Bolyard. Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street; on Thursday, September 24, from 2-8pm; on Friday, September 25, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 am. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Kenny Kendall officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Marquess, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson. Please practice social distancing and masks are requested.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Pete’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the charity of your choice.
