Michael Brandt Hathaway died unexpectedly at his residence in Raleigh, NC on July 9, 2020, at the age of 40.
Michael grew up in Kingwood WV and Canonsburg PA, where he graduated from Canon-McMillan High School. He was an alumnus of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, and enjoyed a career as chef at Vincent’s in Pittsburgh, and several restaurants in the Outer Banks including Swan Cove, J.K.’s, the Flying Dutchman, and as Executive Chef at Port-O-Call, where the owner referred to Michael as a star. He recently worked for Sears Holdings, Sysco and International Food Sales in Raleigh. Mikey knew the love and support of family and treasured all his friendships. He was Catholic and his faith was important to him. Michael loved four-wheeling, surfing, snowboarding, the ocean and camping on the Dry Fork River.
He is survived by his parents, Willard Brandt Hathaway and Nok of Canonsburg, PA, and Mary Somerruk and Paul of Kingwood, WV, his sister, Brooke Hathaway and Rebecca Lavigne of Raleigh, NC, and his daughter, Isabel Plachetka of Raleigh, NC.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Father S. A. Arokiadass, H.G.N. as celebrant. Masks are required along with social distancing.
