William Taylor Obituary

William James Taylor, 85 of Terra Alta, WV died Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD.

He was born July 9, 1937 in Terra Alta and was a son of the late Kenneth Leroy and Janet (Tower) Taylor.

William was the owner and operator of the Peoples Furniture Store in Terra Alta and later worked for the Preston County Sheriff’s Department. He was a 1955 graduate of Terra Alta High School and served in the Army National Guard. His interest includes hunting, fishing, reading and gardening. He especially enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Watson (Schmidle) Taylor; two sons, John Taylor and wife, Lisa of Oakland, MD and Kenny Taylor of Jane Lew; one daughter, Kelee Wilson and husband, Rick of Oakland, MD; two brothers, Robert Taylor of Kingsport, TN and Bud Taylor of Bassett, VA; seven grandchildren, Alexis & (Zach), Abby & (Herschel), Zack, Ian , Chase, Mason and Addison.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Kingwood Funeral Home in Kingwood, WV.  Interment will be in the Terra Alta Cemetery, Terra Alta.

The family request memorial donation be directed to the Terra Alta Library, 120 E. Washington Avenue, Terra Alta, WV  26764.
